Sony just revealed the God of War Laufey Collector Box, and like GTA 6's infamous box before it, this one will not actually come with the game. It's $149.99, preorders went live today at 10am PT through PlayStation Direct, and Sony says stock is "highly limited."
What you do get for that price: an eight-inch light-up statue of Faye, Phranque, and Rue battling Begtse's soldiers (Phranque lights up via USB), a 51-card Oracle Deck illustrated by Megan Lara, and a physical mini artbook pulled from Santa Monica Studio's concept art. No steelbook, no disc, no digital code, no deluxe edition upgrade. Just the merch.
The box ships February 16, 2027, same day the comparisons to GTA 6's $400 game-less box started flying. That one came with sunglasses, a hat, and a cartoon gator figure, and got roasted for skipping a Jason and Lucia statue entirely. Laufey's box at least gives you the protagonist in statue form, so the internet's pitchforks are a little less sharp this time.
Still, it's a rough comparison against God of War's own history. Ragnarok's collector's edition came with Thor's hammer and actual game codes, and the 2018 reboot's edition bundled a Kratos and Atreus statue with a disc, a map, and figures of Brok and Sindri. Charging $150 for merch alone, with no digital deluxe upgrade thrown in as a courtesy, feels like a step back even if the statue looks great under a shelf light.
