Bit Reactor is starting to undo the damage from its pre-launch furloughs. The Star Wars Zero Company studio says payroll numbers are now back up to "more than half" of what they were before most of the team got cut loose.
Studio boss Greg Foertsch posted the update on Bit Reactor's socials, framing the furloughs as a response to "unexpected business developments outside of our control" that hit right before the game shipped.
Having to ask team members to step away after we navigated unexpected business developments outside of our control and so close to launch was an incredibly difficult decision, but one that was necessary to help us eventually bring as many people back as possible.
That still leaves a chunk of the team in limbo without pay. The furloughs first came to light through a lawsuit between Foertsch and Bit Reactor's former COO Alison Kelly, who claims she was pushed out of the studio in a dispute over whether she was actually a co-owner. That case is currently expected to head to trial next year.
Good on the devs who got their paychecks back, but "more than half" still means a lot of the Zero Company team is waiting by the mailbox for good news.
