Must-Have Mods for Elder Scrolls Online: 10 Add-ons and How to Install Them with Minion

The 10 best Elder Scrolls Online add-ons we run, from HarvestMap to Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Crafter, with the libraries each one needs and a step-by-step guide to installing them all with Minion.

The best way to mod Elder Scrolls Online is with add-ons (often written addons): free interface scripts from ESOUI that show where the next ore node is, when a skill runs out, whether your writs are done and whether your bags are full of junk again. ESO has no mods that add quests, models or textures the way Skyrim does, so add-ons are the whole story.

Below are the 10 add-ons we run, all free on ESOUI, plus Minion, the app that installs and updates them in one click. Each card says what the add-on does, which libraries it needs, and whether ESOUI lists it for the current game patch.

Quick instructions

ℹ️The detailed instructions for each of these steps are at the end of the page, starting with Step 1: Install Minion.
  1. Close the game and install Minion. Let it find Elder Scrolls Online.
  2. In Minion's Find More tab, search for each add-on and click Install.
  3. Install the libraries each add-on needs the same way. Minion 3 does not add them for you.
  4. Start the game. On the character screen, open Add-Ons, tick Allow out of date add-ons and check that everything is enabled.
  5. Set each add-on up under Settings, Add-Ons.
  6. Before you play, open Minion and click Update All.

🧰 Start Here: the Add-on Manager

Gamer Deer title card for Minion: One-click installs and updates, made for ESO
01
Manager
Minion

The add-on manager from MMOUI, the team behind ESOUI, where every add-on in this guide is hosted. You search for an add-on inside the app, click Install, and Minion puts it in the right folder. Update All then keeps your whole list current in one click, which matters in ESO because add-ons break with game patches.

  • Free to download, for Windows and macOS, with a Flatpak build for Linux and the Steam Deck. Its change log mentions a small ad that supports development
  • Finds your game and the add-ons you already have on first launch
  • Backs up your add-on list and their saved settings, so you can restore everything after a reinstall (needs a free account)
  • Minion 3 does not install the libraries an add-on needs by itself. Install them the same way, by name (see Step 2)

🗺️ Maps, Pins & Navigation

Gamer Deer title card for HarvestMap: Every node, chest and fishing hole you have found
02
Maps
HarvestMap

Whenever you harvest a crafting material, open a chest or fish a fishing hole, HarvestMap saves the spot and puts a pin on your map, your compass and in the 3D world. It only shows what you discovered yourself, unless you add the shared data from other players.

  • Tracks ore, cloth, wood, runestones, alchemy plants and solvents, chests, heavy sacks, thieves troves, safeboxes and fishing spots
  • A heatmap mode shows resource density, and a filter hides nodes that have not respawned yet
  • Choose which pins show on the map with the funnel icon on the right side of the world map
  • For other players' locations, add HarvestMap-Data and run its DownloadNewData script. Updating that add-on wipes the data, so run the script again after each update
Gamer Deer title card for Lost Treasure: Treasure maps, surveys and tribute clues, pinned
03
Maps
Lost Treasure

Shows where every treasure map, survey report and Tales of Tribute clue leads, right on your world map. Loot a treasure map or a survey and you no longer have to compare a blurry painting with the landscape: the dig spot is pinned.

  • Covers every known treasure map, survey and tribute clue location in every zone
  • Comes with its own small minimap, and shows the spot on your compass as you get close
  • Filter each pin type on or off from the world map
  • It needs seven libraries, more than anything else here. Check the table in Step 2
Gamer Deer title card for Map Pins: Skyshards, lorebooks, bosses and achievements
04
Maps
Map Pins

Adds the pins the game does not give you: skyshards, lorebooks, dungeon bosses, unknown points of interest, chests, shrines, fishing nodes and the locations for dozens of exploration achievements. It works directly with the in-game map and needs no libraries.

  • Turn pin types on and off in the world map's Filters panel
  • Add CustomCompassPins to see the same markers on your compass
  • Installing by hand? The folder must be AddOns\MapPins, not nested inside a second MapPins folder
  • It has treasure and survey pins too. If you see double pins next to Lost Treasure's, untick one set in the filters
Gamer Deer title card for Votan's Minimap: The game's own map, always in the corner
05
Maps
Votan's Minimap

Turns the built-in world map into a small, always-on minimap. Because it is the game's own map, every pin from HarvestMap, Lost Treasure and Map Pins shows up on it without any syncing. It is deliberately lightweight: no rotation mode or border pins.

  • Move and resize it in mouse-cursor mode (the . key by default, or press Enter as if to chat)
  • There is a keybind to show or hide it
  • Do not run it alongside another minimap, such as the one in AUI
  • Includes world-map performance tweaks you can switch off in its settings
Gamer Deer title card for CustomCompassPins: Lets other add-ons put pins on your compass
06
Maps
CustomCompassPins

A library rather than a feature you see on its own. It lets other add-ons draw their own markers on the compass bar at the top of your screen. Lost Treasure needs it, and Map Pins uses it to show its pins on the compass.

  • Install it once and leave it enabled. It has nothing to set up
  • It is listed under Libraries in the in-game Add-Ons menu

⚔️ Combat

Gamer Deer title card for Action Duration Reminder: Seconds left on every skill, right on your bar
07
Combat
Action Duration Reminder

Puts a countdown on each slotted skill that has a duration or a damage-over-time effect, so you know exactly when to recast it. It is the easiest way to learn a rotation, and it keeps working on the bar you are not looking at.

  • Shows a second row above your bar with the timers of your back-bar skills
  • Counts stacks on skills like the Nightblade's Grim Focus
  • Switches timers to the target under your reticle, and blinks a little after a timer hits zero so you do not miss it
  • A blacklist in its settings hides timers you do not want

✨ Quality of Life

08
Quality of Life
No, Thank You! - Season One & Two

Removes the small interruptions that add up over a play session: confirmation dialogs, spammy chat messages, guild invitations from strangers and alerts that tell you what you just did. Every option is a switch, so you keep the messages you actually want.

  • Skip the fast travel confirmation, for wayshrines and for other fast travel
  • Block random guild invitations, and the joined, left and kicked messages from guild rosters
  • Hide the "house was recommended" alerts from Home Tours
  • This is the maintained continuation by Dr_Z. Older No, Thank You! versions are still on ESOUI, so install only this one
Gamer Deer title card for Auto-Claim or Hide Tome Challenges: Tome Points without the pop-up
09
Quality of Life
Auto-Claim or Hide Tome Challenges

Since 2026, Tamriel Tomes have replaced the old Endeavors and daily login rewards, and every completed challenge brings up a pop-up while its points wait to be claimed in the Challenges menu. This add-on claims your Tome Points automatically, or just hides the pop-up if you prefer to claim them yourself.

  • Auto-claim is the default, and a chat message tells you which challenge was completed
  • Switching to hide-only needs the optional LibAddonMenu-2.0
  • It replaces the old daily-reward claimers, which have had nothing to claim since March 2026

🔨 Crafting & Inventory

Gamer Deer title card for Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Crafter: Daily crafting writs, done in seconds
10
Crafting
Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Crafter

Open a crafting station with a writ in your journal and the add-on crafts everything the writ asks for. Your daily writs can take less time than switching characters, which makes them worth doing on every alt.

  • Picks style stones for you (the nine basic racial styles by default), and takes the quest items it needs out of your bank
  • Loots writ rewards, handles the quest and bank dialogs, and protects you from stealing by accident while you do writs
  • Type /dailyreset to see when writs reset
  • Doing master writs seriously? The author points to Writ Worthy for those
Gamer Deer title card for Dustman: Junk sorted, sold and out of your bags
11
Crafting
Dustman

Marks the items you never keep as junk, by rules you set once: low-quality gear, trait-less items, low-level materials, food, potions, treasure maps and more. It can then sell your junk automatically when you talk to a merchant.

  • Exclusions keep what matters: set items, rare styles, Nirnhorned and intricate gear, and items you still need to research
  • Go through every rule once before you rely on it, starting with the defaults
  • Careful with the destroy options: the destroy keybind has no confirmation
  • Not updated since 2023. The author notes that because LibSets is kept current, it should keep working without an update
⚠️Last checked on November 5, 2026, on game patch 12.1 (Update 51), which ESOUI labels Season One. The 5 cards marked ⚠️ were last flagged by their authors for an older patch. That is common in ESO: they load once Allow out of date add-ons is ticked.
ℹ️Playing on console? Add-ons have been available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S since 2025, through the game's own Browse Add-Ons menu, so Minion is not used there. Not every add-on in this guide is on console: search for it in that menu.

Step 1: Install Minion

You can install add-ons by hand, unzipping each one into your AddOns folder, but then you have to check every page for updates after each game patch. Minion is made for ESO: it pulls straight from ESOUI, installs an add-on in one click inside the app, and updates your whole list at once. There are two versions.

Minion 4 (open beta)

  • Made for ESO only, and linked from ESOUI's official Minion 4 forum
  • Installs the libraries an add-on needs automatically
  • Reads the newer .addon files that Minion 3 can miss
  • Still a beta, so expect rough edges. When the installer asks whether to delete your Minion 3 data, answer No so it can import your list
  1. Close Elder Scrolls Online. The game only reads add-ons when it loads, so install and update while it is closed or while you are logged out.
  2. Download Minion from minion.gg and install it.
  3. Start Minion and follow its prompts. It looks for your game and lists the add-ons you already have.
  4. If it does not find the game, point it at your ESO add-on folder: Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns on Windows (liveeu\AddOns if you play on the EU server), the same path inside Documents on a Mac.

Step 2: Install the add-ons and their libraries

Most add-ons rely on libraries: small shared add-ons holding code that several add-ons use, such as their settings pages. A library is installed once and then serves every add-on that needs it. With Minion 3, you install them yourself.

  1. Open the Find More tab, search for an add-on by name, and click Install.
  2. Repeat for every add-on on the list. Include CustomCompassPins, since Lost Treasure needs it.
  3. Install the libraries from the table below the same way, searching for each name as written.
  4. Open the Installed tab. An add-on shown in red is still missing a library: click it to see which one, then install that too.
#Add-onLibraries it needs

Optional: HarvestMap-Data, for other players' locations
03Lost TreasureLibAddonMenu-2.0, LibDebugLogger, LibMapPins, LibNotification, LibSavedVars, LibTreasure

04Map PinsNone
Optional: CustomCompassPins (#06), for compass markers
05Votan's MinimapLibAsync, LibHarvensAddonSettings
06CustomCompassPinsNone
07Action Duration ReminderLibAddonMenu-2.0
08No, Thank You! - Season One & TwoLibAddonMenu-2.0, LibNotification
09Auto-Claim or Hide Tome ChallengesNone
Optional: LibAddonMenu-2.0, to switch to hide-only
10Dolgubon's Lazy Writ CrafterLibAddonMenu-2.0, LibLazyCrafting
11DustmanLibAddonMenu-2.0, LibResearch, LibSets
ℹ️LibAddonMenu-2.0 is the one nearly everything needs, because it builds the add-on settings pages. Install it first.

Step 3: Turn them on in the game

  1. Start the game and log in. On the character selection screen, open Add-Ons.
  2. Tick Allow out of date add-ons at the top. Without it, the 5 add-ons marked ⚠️ stay switched off.
  3. Check that every add-on and every library is enabled. Libraries are listed in their own section.
  4. Log in to a character. The add-ons load with the game.
  5. Changed something mid-session? Type /reloadui in chat to reload the interface without logging out.
⚠️Players regularly report the Allow out of date add-ons box unticking itself. If add-ons vanish after a patch or a reload, check it first.

Step 4: Set them up

Most add-ons put their options in the game menu under Settings, Add-Ons. A few minutes there pays off:

  • HarvestMap, Map Pins and Lost Treasure: open the world map and use the filters on the right to choose which pins you want. A map with every pin type on is hard to read.
  • Votan's Minimap: switch to mouse-cursor mode, then drag and resize it so it does not cover your quest tracker.
  • Action Duration Reminder: keep the defaults for a few fights, then blacklist any timer you do not need.
  • No, Thank You!: go through its list once and switch on only the messages you are tired of.
  • Dustman: read every rule before you trust it with automatic selling, and leave the destroy options off until you know what they catch.
  • Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Crafter: nothing to do. Pick up your writs and open a crafting station.

What to pay attention to

  • Update before you play, not during. Close the game or log out, click Update All in Minion, then start the game.
  • Patch day breaks things. After a game update, expect some Lua errors while authors catch up. Update everything, and disable the add-on named in an error until it is fixed.
  • Get add-ons from ESOUI or Minion only. Add-ons are scripts that run in your game, so stick to the original author's page.
  • One version of each. Some add-ons, No, Thank You! for example, have several versions on ESOUI by different authors. Install only one.
  • One minimap. Votan's Minimap, the AUI minimap and Fyrakin's MiniMap do the same job and conflict. Pick one.
  • Your settings live in SavedVariables. That folder sits next to AddOns in live. Back it up, or use Minion's backup, before you reinstall anything.

When something breaks

Change one thing at a time. When several add-ons misbehave at once, the cause is usually a missing or outdated library they share.

Frequently asked questions

Does Elder Scrolls Online have mods?

Not in the Skyrim sense. ESO has no mods that add quests, models or textures. It has add-ons: free interface scripts, mostly hosted on ESOUI, that change what your screen shows and automate chores such as maps, timers, crafting and inventory. Everything in this guide is an add-on.

What are the best ESO add-ons?

These are the ones we run: HarvestMap, Lost Treasure, Map Pins and Votan's Minimap for maps, Action Duration Reminder for combat, No, Thank You! and Auto-Claim or Hide Tome Challenges for quality of life, and Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Crafter and Dustman for crafting and inventory. Minion installs and updates all of them.

What is the easiest way to install ESO add-ons?

Use Minion. Install it, let it find Elder Scrolls Online, then search for each add-on in the Find More tab and click Install. Click Update All before you play. You can also download each add-on from ESOUI and unzip it into your AddOns folder by hand, but then you have to update everything yourself after every game patch.

Where is the ESO AddOns folder?

On Windows it is Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns on the NA server and Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\liveeu\AddOns on the EU server. On a Mac, the same path sits inside your Documents folder. Each add-on's folder must go directly inside AddOns. Minion puts it there for you.

Why did my ESO add-ons stop working after a patch?

Most add-ons are flagged for one game patch and need an update when ESO patches. Log out, click Update All in Minion, tick Allow out of date add-ons on the character screen, then type /reloadui in game. If one still shows a Lua error, check that its libraries are installed, and report the error on the add-on's ESOUI page.

Can I use ESO add-ons on PlayStation and Xbox?

On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, yes: since 2025 you can browse and install them from the game's own Add-Ons menu. They are not available on PS4 or Xbox One, and not every PC add-on has a console version. Minion is for PC, Mac and Linux.

Are ESO add-ons safe?

Add-ons can only change the interface, not the game's rules. ZeniMax says it does not moderate, review or guarantee them, so install only from ESOUI or Minion, keep them updated, and report problems to the add-on's author.

Is Minion free?

Minion 3 is free to download. Its change log mentions a small advertisement that supports development. It is made by MMOUI, the team that runs ESOUI.
